Friday Sturling
Sturling is a fully inclusive form of curling for teams of 2 players. Stones can be delivered by sliding, with a stick, or from a wheelchair. There is limited sweeping as this is only allowed by the skip once the stone has crossed the far hogline. One player remains at each end of the sheet and the stones are played up by the first player of each team while their team mate skips, then they swap positions and the stones are played back down.
For more information on the format and the rules see Sturling Format.
If you play with a stick or don't like sweeping then this format is for you. Sliding delivery is also allowed, so everyone can play together. Games last for 1 hour and you should get about 6 ends in during that time.
No sign Up - Simply Turn Up
We are trying something new. For this season you will not need to say whether you will be coming or not, you can just simply turn up. You will be randomly drawn into teams each week depending on who is there.
The convenience of not having to register is countered by the fact that we will never know how many will turn up. It will be up to the group to adjust team numbers to get everyone on the ice. It is possible to play this format with teams of 3, where 2 players alternately deliver the stones for their team and the players rotate after each end. So you can play with 4, 5 or 6 on one sheet of ice. There is a possibility that there may be too few players on the day, in which case it will be an early lunch and a long chat!
Fridays at 12:15 - £10 per Person
These sessions will run most Fridays from the beginning of October. There are a few weeks when other events have this session booked, but it will be clear in the website diary when Sturling is scheduled.
You play for one hour and then head to the bar for lunch or a drink. Players will pay for their game on the day.
If you like this idea please support it. If we do not get enough players to make it work then it will be withdrawn. If you know anyone who you think would like this, let them know.
